Where have all the old attractions and rides gone to?  When you look back since the opening of Walt Disney World in 1971 you realize that there have been many changes through out the years.  Some changes are small and others are large.

The removal of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea seems to have been a lost to a really popular attraction.

River Country

Another attraction that has been missed and was a great option for families with small children is River Country, one of Disney's first water park.  This attraction seen like it would be perfect for families, a little less congested and a better fit for families with small children.

Mickey's Toontown Fair

I think the lost of Mickey's Toontown Fair will be greatly missed by many children.

These are just a few of the rides and attractions that have disappeared from Walt Disney World over the years.  These are dozens that have disappeared I am not sure if the changes are worth what they have been replaced with.  Some attractions and rides just closed and nothing took it's place.  I'm hoping with this blog people that have inside knowledge of why a ride or attraction closes and how they choose that ride or attraction to close.  What replaced the old ride or attraction and how have the guest reacted. One last attraction that closed was the Disney Institute.  It seemed to have a great concept.  You could take classes on all kinds of subjects and still enjoy the parks.  This is one area that they refurbished the property by replacing it with the Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa.

Hoping to keep the blog going and learning about the history of other rides and attractions that have been closed through out Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, Disney Hollywood Studios and Downtown Disney.

Let us know what your favorite ride or attraction was and if you feel that the replacement was a better choice.  One last question, can someone tell me what the building in EPCOT that is to the right of the walk way, I believe they call it the Odyssey Center is.  This building has been closed for as long as I can remember.  I have seen it sent up on occasions for some  sort of conference or dining event.  I have always wondered what the intension of the building was for.  I thought maybe a restaurant, but not sure. Thanks and happy blogging.

I think a big lost to Disney is Pleasure Island.
Universal has City Walk which is a lot like Downtown Disney and the old Pleasure Island.
